Disciplinary Approaches to Composing Texts

Reading in Justice Administration

by Dr. BC Franson

Reading for content is an important tool for students to develop as opposed to reading the definitions of concepts. In the practice of reading for content students are able to see the different context within which concepts, theories, and examples are used. This is an important practice to consider when reading in sociology or corrections. In addition, taking good notes and writing summaries of the readings is another way students can demonstrate their understanding of the content.
